Technical Notes: Colour Theory

·      Tint is when white is added to a colour.
·      Shade is when black is added to a colour.
·      Tone is when grey is added to a colour.
·      Harmonious colours sit next to each other on the colour wheel.
·   When applying colour to the face, smaller brushes give a stronger colour.
·  Use a colour to highlight down the centre of the face (forehead, nose, cupids bow, arch on chin).
·     There are three points in applying eye shadow to highlight the eye, the inner corner of the eye, the middle of eyelid, and the arch of brow to the edge of the brow.
·  Take your highlight colour and shade under the eye across to the highest part of the cheekbone in a triangle like shape.
·    A useful tip to follow when contouring is you take your contour in the line from the corner of your mouth to your tragus in your ear.
